Tom Felton has emotional visit to Auschwitz

Contactmusic.com has posted a little article covering Tom’s tweets from this morning when he mentioned his trip to Poland. During the trip, Tom visited Auschwitz, Birkenau and Monowitz and called it one of the most draining days he’s ever had.

This must have been a very emotional trip for Tom because his girlfriend’s aunt and uncle are Auschwitz survivors who sucked on coal to survive starvation.

Here is the story from Contactmusic.com:

Felton’s Tearful Trip To Auschwitz

HARRY POTTER star TOM FELTON has paid an emotional visit to Nazi death camp Auschwitz – calling the trip “mentally painful”.

The British actor travelled to the site of the former concentration camp in Poland on Tuesday (11May10), the place where an estimated 1.1 million people died during World War II.

And he admits he found the moving experience “hard”, but insists his fans should visit the site to witness the true horror of Nazi tyranny.

In a post on his Twitter.com blog, Felton writes, “I went to Poland yesterday, went to Auschwitz, it was a very hard and mentally painful day, however I’m so happy I’ve been and seen all the camps. I’m completely aware of what went on only a generation ago. I recommend everyone to go, it’s something we should all see.”

  1. Someday my husband and I will make the trip, it is very important to him and his ancestry to see it himself.

  2. I’ve seen it too. My grandmother died there while my grandfather survived. He had stories that were just truly horrific. I do agree with Tom that everyone should see it, it’s really impressive in a bad way.

  3. I’ve not doubted of Thomas’s deep emotion as soon as he had tweeted about it this morning.

I also found very brave from his share to have perform such a trip, especially knowing that it’s part of his girlfriend’s historical and familial background. Not everybody would so.

My Granny actually went there to visit once, to never return: the horror and suffering is breathing from everywhere at such degree, that is suffocating.

    With Love,

    Sam.

  4. I saw the tweets this morning but this story gave me chill bumps. It is definitely on my top 5 places to see even though I know how over whelming it will be. So few people survived. Its good to know Jade’s family had the will to do so. Just incredible.

  5. I am from Poland, and I’ve been there too. Here we have many historical places where people can find mass graves or monuments. I think it all shows how much Poland suffered. I’m glad that Tom was there, because it is really important place for us, Polish.
