My right guess, actually, yes, that this shoot was indeed related to The Sun’s interview, although I don’t have the paper copy of it.
I’ve to agree with Catherine Tully regarding the fact that Thomas seems to be lost in his thoughts onto this shoot, for that’s how I perceived it myself when I first saw it yesterday.
The pose’s corresponding to Thomas’s creative and dreamy-like nature, while the blue of his t-shirt emphasizes and matches the gentleness in his eyes…
