Tom Felton interviewed by Scholastic.com

Scholastic.com posted a new interview today featuring Tom Felton and Bonnie Wright. They share their thoughts on JK Rowling,  parts they wish they could have filmed, and how important their roles have become in the final book.

Q: Are you both happy about the way your parts got more important in the last book?

Bonnie: Yeah I definitely was happy where J.K. Rowling took the character of Ginny. I think if we were all told at the first film where our characters would end up, I don’t think any of us would have imagined. It’s just really enjoyable and sort of unnerving at the beginning when you do read the last book.

Tom: Seriously. When that came out I was like, I’m not going to read it. I’m going to wait for the script. I don’t want to be reading bits in the book and thinking I can’t wait to do that and then find out it’s not going to be featured. And that lasted about an hour, and within it being released in a day I read the whole thing!

Q: Is there any particular scene from any of the books that you wish you could have filmed but wasn’t filmed?

Tom: They cut out actually very little. There was a thing in the second film where Jason [Lucius Malfoy] and I did a scene at Borgin and Burkes and it was the first time that it was father and son together. And that answered a lot to me why Draco is like that. Unfortunately it was never featured in the film. It was on the DVD as a deleted scene, so I got to watch it, which was cool. But no, everything else we’ve shot. Especially on these last two [films]. Everything — when I read the book I thought, “I can’t wait to shoot that.” It’s all there, so we’re very excited.

Q: How would you describe J.K. Rowling?

Bonnie: I always find it so surreal meeting her. This whole world literally is because of one person.
Tom: She’s a very unassuming down-to-earth lady, the most lovely lady. I was always taken away by how genuine she seemed, and how unaffected by the fact that she’s probably the world’s biggest author.

Q: In Harry Potter 6 everyone’s in love except Draco.

Tom: Oh what’s that? Can you believe it! I didn’t even realize all this stuff was going on because I was doing the whole evil walk down the corridor thing and when we saw the film everyone sort of. . .of course I’m jealous! I like to think Draco had offers but he was too busy with his evil task at hand.

Bonnie: Or they weren’t good enough.

Tom: This was it. Very high standards for Draco. I can’t imagine why any female on the planet would want to spend the day with him.

Q: Which of the other actors do you look up to?

Tom: I look up massively to Dan [Harry], Rupert [Ron] and Emma [Hermione]. I think they hold the fort single-handedly so well. They’re all superb actors and they carry the feature through beautifully. And they deal with it like it’s nothing! I know we’re all here quite a bit, but they’re here religiously. Endless days, and yet Daniel takes it all in his stride and absolutely loves it. I always admire watching him on set.

Tom Felton dishes about Deathly Hallows in new MTV interview

In a new interview from www.mtv.com, Tom discusses how David Yates plans to handle filming of the epilogue for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

Perhaps the two biggest questions surrounding “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the two-part finale of J.K. Rowling’s book series, are how filmmakers will handle the author’s flash-forward postscript and what in the world Potter-philes will do when there are no more novels or films to look forward to.

The answer to that second question remains to be seen. But what will director David Yates do about the ending? Following the epic Harry vs. Voldemort smackdown, Rowling jumped ahead almost two decades to catch up with her characters in the future. For the big-screen adaptation, does that mean older actors will portray Harry and the rest of the grown-up students? Or that the young stars will be aged through makeup effects or CGI technology?

No decision has been made, according to Tom Felton, who plays peroxide-blond villain Draco Malfoy. “We haven’t shot that yet, and I still haven’t had the confirmation whether I’m doing it or we’re going to get someone else to do it,” he told MTV News while promoting the DVD for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” “I haven’t heard too much. I guess they’re still making decisions about it now. It is a very exciting scene. I know Daniel [Radcliffe] and I have talked about it and said it’d be a lot of fun to do.”

Back in July, Yates told us he was gunning to use Radcliffe and the rest of the cast for the postscript through the use of technology similar to that employed in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” “There’s something extraordinary about the audience’s knowledge of them when they were this high and then seeing them where they are 38,” he said. “There’s something really beautiful about that circle, so it has to be them. I think if after seven or eight movies, we recast them in that last scene — we all thought, ‘No way, we can’t do that.’ ”

While Felton joked that he’d be cool with having Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio step in to play an adult Draco, the British actor maintained that he’s looking forward to seeing what he will look like 19 years in the future. “It’d be kind of freaky to see what they come up with,” he said.
