MTV Names Tom Felton One Of Their 11 To Watch In 2011

In a recent interview with MTV, Tom talks about his upcoming projects, missing out on reshooting the epilogue,  and why MTV thinks 2011 will be his best year yet:

Over the past week here at MTV News, we’ve been highlighting 11 people you’ll be hearing about in 2011. From Kim Kardashian’s plans to take over the pop world to self-proclaimed future “best artist of the year” Wiz Khalifa, we’ve selected a wide variety of folks who will be making waves and headlines this year.

Now, MTV News is proud to recognize Tom Felton. Yes, he had a lot going for him in 2010, with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” and everything that comes along with promoting a billion-dollar film franchise. He also picked up his first Golden Popcorn trophy at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, where he was named Best Villain.

When we caught up with Felton recently, we chatted about why this year will be even bigger than the last, what to expect from his performances in “Apparition” and “Rise of the Apes,” as well as an update on his budding music career.

MTV: Have you seen any finished scenes from “Rise of the Apes” or “Apparition” yet?

Tom Felton: They have been very, very tight with both films. I’ve seen maybe half a scene of “Apparition.” We were doing some for that, and it looked great. It looked really beautiful, the way it was shot. “Rise of the Apes” they’re keeping very much under lock and key, so I’m exceptionally excited. When I was there [during filming], I experienced so many fantastic performances around me. I’m excited to see it come to life onscreen. It’s going to be a great film.

MTV: What about the “Deathly Hallows – Part 2” reshoots for that heavily hyped epilogue?

Felton: Believe it or not, I got left off the hook. Apparently, the shot setup didn’t require my presence, so I was let off the hook at the last minute. I got all excited about going back, but I heard everything went swimmingly and everything is looking fantastic.

MTV: You once mentioned a brilliant potential scene between you and Dan Radcliffe where you, as Draco and Harry, run and hug. You should make that happen.

Felton: [Laughs.] I may get Dan around here one day this weekend and we may just shoot that ourselves and send it in. It needs to be seen, doesn’t it?

MTV: Obviously, we here at MTV News have been fans of yours for quite some time, but it seems like a lot of other people have jumped on the Felton fan bandwagon. Do you feel a sense of that at all?

Felton: I’ve been exceptionally lucky, with lots of aspects of my life. The people around me have been fantastic, and I feel we’re in a great position with some really exciting films to come out this year. I’m enjoying L.A. when I go there as well. That was a bit of a foreign town for me at first, but I’m thoroughly enjoying my time out there, so I’m looking forward to getting out there at some point next year. There’s lots to look forward to.

MTV: What’s the latest with your music?

Felton: It’s all going very well. We’re currently in development with a few artists that we’re hoping to get out next year and just promote this idea that low-key music can be some of the best. I’m hoping to do some other recording later on in the year. It’s a massive passion project of mine, and the fans’ response has been fantastic, and MTV has been good to me there as well. I thoroughly appreciate that.

MTV: What can you tell us about working with Ashley Greene (who is also one of our 11 for ’11)?

Felton: I was hugely excited about working with her [on “Apparition”], and her talent was exceptionally easy to notice very quickly. One of the first scenes I saw her do, she was in a very sort of panicky state and she jumped straight into it after lunch. It was amazing to see. I thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone on “Rise of the Apes” as well. Andy Serkis to me is one of the most memorable people I worked with this year. He’s truly amazing to watch and an absolute gentleman offscreen as well, which is always nice. I’ve been very lucky in working with nice people.

MTV: Are you still playing golf with your “Potter” co-stars, Rupert Grint, James and Oliver Phelps?

Felton: Yes, most certainly. We haven’t teed up in a while, but I’m definitely on for that. We occasionally swing the clubs. It’s always nice to get the Weasleys out for a quick round of golf.

MTV: You guys should film that sometime. I’m sure fans would want to see it.

Felton: It’s very funny you should say that. I don’t want to speak ahead, but we have actually done that, and I’m not sure if James is putting together a little video or if it’s going to end up on something — I haven’t seen anything yet — but I have a feeling that one day that video may make it to air.

Feltbeats Army Member Raffles Tom Felton Portrait For Queensland Flood Relief

Feltbeats Army Member, and Australia native @Rotae is raffling one of the amazing Tom Felton portraits that she has drawn, to raise money for flood victims in Queensland. A talented artist, she is the creator of our very own Feltbeats logo. More info from Rotae:

Over the past week flooding has absolutely devastated the southern part of the state of Queensland, Australia. 75% of Queensland has been declared a disaster zone, an area twice the size of Texas and over five times the size of the United Kingdom.

The Queensland Government has launched an appeal to help fellow Queenslanders affected by the recent floods. Many communities have been devastated. Some families have lost everything.

In the hopes of helping out, I’m raffling off a portrait I drew of Tom Felton for his 22nd Birthday in 2009 with all proceeds going to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.

You can donate any amount. Any monetary donation up to $5 will receive one number in the draw, and donations up to $10 will receive two, with the numbers going up in $5 increments. Both Australian and US $ are accepted as they’re basically the same thing at the moment anyway. I decided to do a raffle as opposed to an auction as now people can donate whatever they have to spare.

As you can see, it doesn’t go right to the edges of the page and sorry about the reflections off the picture, LOL. I’ll be cutting the binding area off too :)

As the appeal is not currently listed on any charity websites, I’m accepting payments and will be depositing all donations directly through my account – I’ll be posting screenshots of the transfer when it’s done. My email address is rotae_lupin@hotmail.com. Please make sure to put what name you wish to be acknowledged with in the notes if it’s different to your payment name.

The raffle is open for one week starting as soon as this post is up, so we’ll say until Thursday the 20th of January 18:00 AEST.

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Please share this wherever you feel appropriate.

Peace,
Rotae

If you would like a chance to win this beautiful portrait of Tom Felton, please donate. Thanks 🙂

MTV: Tom Felton made Universal Orlando promise to add something Malfoy-related to Wizarding World

According to MTV.com, Tom Felton used his most recent trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to petition for more Malfoy-related stuff at the theme park. How very Slytherin of him!

Apparently, Tom told MTV.com that he “drove up from Miami to Orlando with my misses just to sort of pop into Hogwarts, and I spoke to the people there,” he explained. MTV.com said he was amazed by “all the youngsters waving wands about.”

MTV.com also asked him if he knew of any expansion plans for the park.

“We were talking about that,” Tom admitted. “I made them promise me that if they ever have plans of expansion they put a Malfoy manor in or maybe a Slytherin common room or something like that.”

Tom Felton talked with LA Hero Complex about “Rise of the Apes”

LA Times Hero Complex published an interview with Tom about his upcoming movie “Rise of the Apes”. The release date is on June 24 this year in US. Here you can see the other release dates .

‘Rise of the Apes’: Tom Felton excited about ‘brilliant script’

It’s a big summer for Tom Felton, who says goodbye to Hogwarts with the July 15 release of ”Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.” But a few weeks prior to that big event, Felton is getting into some serious monkey business with “Rise of the Apes,” the Fox film that is enjoying renewed interest in Hollywood with the strong advance word on its Weta Digital visual effects and the career heat around leading man James Franco.

Felton, for one, is pulsing with excitement about director Rupert Wyatt’s “Apes” revival, which takes place in contemporary San Francisco and sets the stage for the events that took place in “Planet of the Apes,” the 1968 sci-fi classic that yielded four sequels as well as Tim Burton’s 2001 remake and several television shows.

“It’s one of my favorite scripts of any I’ve read,” Felton said. “It’s a brilliant script. It’s a prequel to the classic, ‘Planet of the Apes,’ so it explains how the apes came to power and it’s a fantastic story, really.”

Felton said he is leaving “Potter” and his sneering role of Draco Malfoy with plenty of good memories, but his supporting role in ”Apes” might be the first step in moving his public persona beyond black suits, blond hair and magic wands. He says he’s not concerned about playing another vindictive fellow in the “Apes” film. “I love playing a villainous role, and I would happily be known for that. A lot of great English actors have been known for that, perhaps Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rickman and Anthony Hopkins being some of the finest.”

And what can Felton say about this new ”Apes” film? He expressed excitement about the plan for Weta to create the apes through digital wizardry — as opposed to the makeup-and-costume approach that was at the core of monkey portrayals in the previous “Apes” installments — but he chose his words carefully in matters of plot and his own character, a research facility employee named Dodge.

“I have to be careful here because they haven’t given me a clearance to divulge the entire plot — as much as I’d like to. I can tell you it’s a great story. I’m amazed, really, that they didn’t do [the original films] in this order and start with this modern-day story. It seems logical to start with this story and then go forward from there. But here we are; they’ve come back and done this interesting story. It essentially follows one particular ape. The story follows this one ape as he ends up in a primate facility, a facility where my character works. Needless to say, I’m not that keen on the monkeys at my facility. I’m not the most pleasant person they’ve ever come across in their life. I show this one particular ape that there is a dark side to humans, and I’m not very nice. And that leads to a backlash …”

That ape is Caesar, and Franco plays the empathetic scientist who takes the ape home to spare him from the cruelties of Felton’s character. Caesar is one of the test subjects in a research program aimed at finding treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, but the work has an unexpected effect on him. Caesar is played by Andy Serkis, the actor who so memorably collaborated with the Weta team to create the Gollum character in “The Lord of the Rings” films. The “Rise of the Apes” cast also includes John Lithgow, Freida Pinto, Brian Cox and David Hewlett. The film hits theaters on June 24.
