Tom Felton likes movies with baddies, major baddies.

The UK’s Press Association has released an interview featuring Tom, Bonnie Wright, and Jason Isaacs where they each revealed to the FilmClub what films inspired them when they were young.

Harry Potter’s Tom Felton may play villain Draco Malfoy in the hit films, but he reveals he was inspired by screen heroes.

The 22-year-old told children’s charity Filmclub which movies inspired him on his journey to become an actor.

Tom said: “I remember as a kid loving Robin Hood and all the James Bond movies were a big inspiration to me as a child. Those were some of the films that I thought, ‘That would be a very cool job to do.’ So, I’m very lucky enough to be here.”

Jason Isaacs, who plays Draco’s father, the nasty Lucius Malfoy, revealed he was overwhelmed by cinema when he saw The Wizard of Oz.

He said: “I first saw it when I was a little kid on a giant screen and it was overwhelming – it was awash with colours and music and extraordinary looking people. One of the great things about the film is that it makes you think about films.”

Meanwhile, Bonnie Wright, who plays Harry’s girlfriend Ginny Weasley, revealed she was inspired by children’s classic A Little Princess.

She said: “The film that changed my life was A Little Princess, which I remember watching when I was a little girl and it made me really believe that inside every girl there is a little princess.”

FILMCLUB is a network of free after-school clubs which encourages school children to watch films they may not normally see as part of its new Film Journeys campaign. More information can be found at http://journeys.filmclub.org/close_encounters.html

Wizarding World Invasion 2010 – Feltfans unite at opening of Harry Potter Theme Park in spirit of fun, friendship, and Tom Felton

The opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter was nothing short of spectacular. Record crowds descended upon Orlando, Florida at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, and plenty of avid Feltbeats members were among them to take the Forbidden Journey, as well as sample plenty of Butterbeer, Pumpkin Juice and Treacle Fudge, among other treats at HoneyDukes and the Three Broomsticks.

Over thirty Feltbeats members and their guests signed up to meet as a group at the park. Crowds forced the group to change meeting times, but overall, we were able to get everyone into at least one of the group photographs.

Feltbeats.com covered all the adventures of the Feltbeats fans at the park. A very, very special thanks goes out to Lilyginny27, Misha, and Tick-Tock, who posted all our pictures and video and did a phenomenal job of covering the event online.

There were numerous press events, but the best coverage came from Monica and Jessica, who were at the park gates at 5 am on the morning and found themselves on the Today Show. In fact, Feltbeats.com got a bit of free national advertising when Monica turned her shoulder bag, and its prominent Feltbeats logo toward the camera.

Members found each other throughout the park on the first day, most recognizable by their blue Feltbeats t-shirts, or the lovely army caps that were given as incredibly generous gifts by Shelly.

As far as the park, well, there is plenty of video about it in general. Everyone loved the Butterbeer, but I think we all agreed that it was too sweet to really have more than one. Someone reported that a single glass had 400 calories!

It seemed that the only consistent complaint from the team was that there weren’t enough Draco-related items in the shops and around the park. I did find that there is a portrait in one of the rooms in the queue for Forbidden Journey that looks very much like a young Draco, but really not much else. So, if anyone is looking for a personal mission, feel free to let the park know that you want more Draco and lets see if we can get them to remedy that!

Throughout the weekend, what was most wonderful was how many folks managed to share their love of Tom, Tom’s music or Feltbeats with random people while standing in line, or in shops, or at the hotel. Ashley had Tom’s music on her iPod and was playing it for others in line, and was interviewed by a local TV station (Channel 9 in Orlando) because the reporter asked her about her hat.

In general, it was amazing how many people recognized the word Feltbeats, and every time any of us brought it up to a new person, the response was always welcoming and positive. Overall, we repeatedly got comments about how positive the site is, and we’d like to thank you, our members, for helping to make it that way. The mission of Feltbeats is, in part, to remain lighthearted and fun, and it was very apparent from the feedback that fans really respond to that.

Feltbeats fans are truly the best. Special thanks to all the Feltbeats Forum and Army members who joined us in Florida, both physically and from afar. We received numerous tweets and emails from folks who couldn’t attend, but we felt like you were with us because of your cheerful support (javastix, avantlaube, melissamoo, roomofradcliffe, erikadianel)

The opening of the park was a truly special event, not only because of the park itself, but because of the adventure we all shared together. And, once again, a very, very special thanks to all the Feltbeats members who were there: miss_mani, susan_walker, gnzlsgrl, jesskat3, southernbets, lsalim, Vicki, Liz, Madam_Barbara, Madam_Rache, Sir_Aiden, clb1018, tsukikomalfoy, flagmaster, who_knows_you, Shelly, Heather, Mike, flagmaster, Chris, Crystal, Ryan, Jaiben, Christoper and bserlori (crosses fingers and prays that I didn’t forget anyone)

Tom Felton on Draco, Evil, and Vulnerability with MTV

Thanks to Melissa for pointing out this second half of Tom’s latest MTV interview. I’m “working” and can’t watch so I’ll let their synopsis speak for itself:

“Harry Potter” star (and recent MTV Movie Awards winner) Tom Felton has seen his star rise steadily since first gracing the big screen as Draco Malfoy in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Fans have watched the young actor evolve from a one-note bully to a complicated and sometimes vulnerable villain.

When MTV News caught up with Felton at the opening of Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, we asked him about Draco’s growth over the course of the eight films, as well as whether he thinks his character is really all evil.

“From my character’s point of view, a lot has been left to interpretation,” Felton said, pinpointing an important-yet-subtle moment from the final film, in which Draco is tasked with the painful decision whether to help or hinder his nemesis’ progress. “[There is] one take where you want to help Harry. The books, I think, kind of left it up to the interpretation of the reader, really, so one way you internally want to help him, the other side where you’re just confused, so I’m intrigued to see which bits David [Yates] cuts out of it.”

Regarding Malfoy’s not-so-bad, tortured side, Felton said “Potter” creator J.K. Rowling helped him understand a softer side. “Jo always talked about him as being vulnerable,” Felton said. “Most bullies are. They’re actually hugely insecure and have their own problems, and he has the worst parental guidance of any child I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Felton added that when he and Daniel Radcliffe have discussed their characters’ dynamics, they see them as two sides of the same coin. “Harry has these great influences, even though his parents have passed,” Felton said. “Draco, he’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t, really. He’s kind of stuck.”

For such a funny guy, Tom Felton doesn’t see comedy in his future.

For those of you in the US, you’ve had a month to see Tom’s cameo in “Get Him to the Greek,” but if you read Tom’s twitter, you would know it’s just been released in the UK. To help celebrate the opening (I’m assuming here since timing is oh so coincidental) MTV has released a short interview with Tom where he expounds rapturously on being asked to take part in the epic of Aldous Snow’s journey in the film.

“Get Him To The Greek” has been out in theaters for about a month now, so we’re assuming all you Tom Felton fans have run out to catch a glimpse of your boy’s cameo towards the beginning of the film. While “Greek” definitely has funnier moments, namely spewing out of the mouth of Russell Brand’s Aldous Snow, Jonah Hill asking Tom if they want to go hang out with Professor Snape was definitely a high point.

When we caught up with Tom in Orlando for the grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, we had to ask him about the cameo and his future as a comedic star.

“It was a dream come true to actually be on the set,” Tom said about the experience. “[Producer Judd Apatow] actually brought his kids down meet me and I was like, are you serious? You’re my hero. It was kind of surreal. A dream come true.”

Tom’s cameo came to be when Judd and Jonah Hill decided to visit the set of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” while they were filming in London. Tom, if you missed it, is a huge Jonah Hill fan (his favorite being “Superbad”) and asked if they could return the favor and have a cameo in “Greek.”

“Jonah’s a comic genius in my house. None of my friends really are that interested in the sort of actors that I work with, but they heard like Jonah’s name and they were going crazy,” Tom said.

While Tom said he definitely enjoyed his time on “Greek,” he doubts that becoming a comedic star is in his future. Unlike the “Harry Potter” films, “Greek” required a lot of improvisation that caught him by surprise.

“I’m also used to sticking on the mark and reading lines exactly as they were written. You can’t deviate at all,” he said. “It was nerve wracking, but hugely rewarding and fun. What they ended up with I think was pretty funny.”

Were you a fan of Tom Felton’s cameo in “Get Him To The Greek”? Do you think he could pull of being a comedic actor?
