A look back at Tom Felton’s journey to a quarter of a million Twitter followers

It was almost a year ago when Feltbeats.com first announced that Tom Felton had joined Twitter, and Tom posted his first Tweet ever:

TomFelton: writing songs in my pyjamas!

Since then, we’ve all watched as he hit 50,000 followers only a month after signing up, and 200,000 followers last October.

His meteoric rise to Twitterfame has also been marked by many awards, achievements and special moments, such as when he won the Mashable.com award for “Best Actor/Actress to Follow on Twitter,” when he was ranked #86 on the “Most Influential” list of celebrity Twitterers, when Tom tweeted to the whole LeakyCon2009 convention, when self.com asked Tom our Twitter questions during their interview, when Tom was voted Best Harry Potter Twitterer in the 2009 “Leaky” awards (with 53% of the vote!), or when we teamed up with Tom Fletcher fans to get both Toms in the top three of the Mr. Twitter Universe competition.

To commemorate the event, Feltbeats Admin @bserlori (and resident cake decorator) has made Tom this nice congratulatory design. Very sweet, Lori! (And by sweet, I mean that literally; I’m getting a sugar high from just looking at the picture!)

Thanks Lori, and congratulations Tom – from all of your fans!

Tom Felton films video with director Richard Curtis to promote the “Robin Hood tax”

Earlier today, Tom Felton worked with director Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, Bridget Jones, etc.) to film a video to help promote awareness of a proposed “Robin Hood tax.”

According to the London Standard, the “Robin Hood tax” is an idea proposed by a group of more than 300 economists and businessmen, where there would be a small tax on financial transactions that occur only between large institutions. There are estimates it could raise more than £250 to £450 billion a year worldwide. This money could then be used to help fight global climate change

Bill Nighy, who also supports the proposal and has filmed a campaign video supporting it as well, told the Standard: “The thing about the Robin Hood tax is we ourselves searched for the flaws and there aren’t any. It’s one of those simply brilliant ideas that works for everybody and it’s slightly surprising that there should be any resistance from anyone.”

Watch the first campaign video with Bill Nighy below:

Other celebrities filmed alongside Tom today, as well, such as Ben Kingsley and Noel Clarke. Tom tweeted about it today:

New behind-the-scenes photo of Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy

Thanks to hbpmoviepics and Oclumencia, we have this new behind-the-scenes shot of Tom during filming of “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.”

Take a look at everyone’s totally out-of-character expressions!

  • Tom’s nice smile is very “Tom” and not “Draco.” Quite funny to see how he can turn into Draco when the cameras roll!
  • Matt Lewis looks very pensive.
  • Dan Radcliffe is doing some kind of “Oh no you didn’t!” thing.
  • What are Joshua Herman and Jamie Waylett looking at?!
