SpeakEasy Tom Felton, The Interview

The Wall Street Journal’s Michelle Kung interviews Tom Felton in their SpeakEasy page. In it, Tom talks about the horrific pictures he’s seen of Ron’s Horcrux Hallucination. Or does he? Check out the interview and find out!

Here’s a segment of the interview:

Speakeasy: What was the last scene you shot before coming to New York?

Tom Felton: I can’t reveal too much, or I’ll get myself in trouble, but I can say that we’ve been shooting some of the very last scenes from the very last film. Though we’re not going to be able to see it for another two years, which is crazy. But it’s very moving, because this is what we’ve been working toward for the last 10 years. Daniel [Radcliffe] is the figurehead of the series, so when we see him battered and abused and scarred [while in character] on set, you get all emotional.

In the final scenes, you get to work with more of the adult cast, which must be a nice change of pace — as well as a high-end acting workshop.

Definitely. I was always one of the 800 kids floating around, and now I get to work more with the big guns, if you will. They’re all incredibly nice people. Jason Isaacs, who plays my dad [Lucius Malfoy], is especially great. I wouldn’t go up to Ralph Fiennes [who plays Lord Voldemort] and ask, ‘How do you cry?’. But Jason I feel quite comfortable asking, ‘how do you do this, and how do you do that?’. And he would never take offense if one were to go, ‘Jason, just shut up.’ The most helpful thing he’s taught me is to speak up, because when you’re surrounded by these great actors, you tend to be the quiet voice when everyone is talking, and he taught me to stand up for myself.

On “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Jim Broadbent joined the cast and very oddly, he played my dad in my first movie when I was 7. Because I haven’t seen him in 10 years, I was convinced he wouldn’t remember me, but from the first moment he saw me, he called my by my character’s name from that first film. I’m a massive fan of his. He’s probably one of the most underrated actors, certainly in the U.K.

Speaking of “Half-Blood Prince,” you’re featured quite a bit in the extras for the newly released DVD and Blu-Ray discs. Were you guys consciously shooting extra bits during the film’s production expressly for the DVD?

In previous years, without knocking them too much, [the DVD producers] kind of just threw the extra bits they couldn’t use from the movie onto the extras. This time, because they knew the Blu-ray was going to be able to hold a lot more content, the cast and the publicity team literally sat down and talked about what we would be willing to do and what we’d be happy to do, so that’s where ideas like the “Quickfire Questioning” came from. It was really cool for us, because they gave us [actors] a camera crew each for a day, and we all went to a different departments that we had never gone to. Because obviously, the actors get a lot of praise, but there are all these amazing people building set and making wands that, many of whom, we’d never even met. So it was fascinating to talk to them [for the DVD featurettes] and explain what they do to the audience.

Fans were disappointed when Warner Bros pushed the original theatrical release date of “Half-Blood Prince” back from fall 2008 to summer 2009. They studio isn’t going to pull a fast one with the release dates for parts one and two of “Deathly Hallows,” are they?

I was let down as well [at the time]; I had worked on it for 12 months and then I was told I’d have to have another 7 months? I was frustrated, but it all worked out in the end, because it gave us a chance to enjoy the film more when it came out. The next few years are quite strongly structured. The only reason they moved that was because Warner Bros was having a record year [in 2008] with the Batman film’s success. You can’t argue with the finances; they know what they’re doing.

Tom Felton interviewed by Scholastic.com

Scholastic.com posted a new interview today featuring Tom Felton and Bonnie Wright. They share their thoughts on JK Rowling,  parts they wish they could have filmed, and how important their roles have become in the final book.

Q: Are you both happy about the way your parts got more important in the last book?

Bonnie: Yeah I definitely was happy where J.K. Rowling took the character of Ginny. I think if we were all told at the first film where our characters would end up, I don’t think any of us would have imagined. It’s just really enjoyable and sort of unnerving at the beginning when you do read the last book.

Tom: Seriously. When that came out I was like, I’m not going to read it. I’m going to wait for the script. I don’t want to be reading bits in the book and thinking I can’t wait to do that and then find out it’s not going to be featured. And that lasted about an hour, and within it being released in a day I read the whole thing!

Q: Is there any particular scene from any of the books that you wish you could have filmed but wasn’t filmed?

Tom: They cut out actually very little. There was a thing in the second film where Jason [Lucius Malfoy] and I did a scene at Borgin and Burkes and it was the first time that it was father and son together. And that answered a lot to me why Draco is like that. Unfortunately it was never featured in the film. It was on the DVD as a deleted scene, so I got to watch it, which was cool. But no, everything else we’ve shot. Especially on these last two [films]. Everything — when I read the book I thought, “I can’t wait to shoot that.” It’s all there, so we’re very excited.

Q: How would you describe J.K. Rowling?

Bonnie: I always find it so surreal meeting her. This whole world literally is because of one person.
Tom: She’s a very unassuming down-to-earth lady, the most lovely lady. I was always taken away by how genuine she seemed, and how unaffected by the fact that she’s probably the world’s biggest author.

Q: In Harry Potter 6 everyone’s in love except Draco.

Tom: Oh what’s that? Can you believe it! I didn’t even realize all this stuff was going on because I was doing the whole evil walk down the corridor thing and when we saw the film everyone sort of. . .of course I’m jealous! I like to think Draco had offers but he was too busy with his evil task at hand.

Bonnie: Or they weren’t good enough.

Tom: This was it. Very high standards for Draco. I can’t imagine why any female on the planet would want to spend the day with him.

Q: Which of the other actors do you look up to?

Tom: I look up massively to Dan [Harry], Rupert [Ron] and Emma [Hermione]. I think they hold the fort single-handedly so well. They’re all superb actors and they carry the feature through beautifully. And they deal with it like it’s nothing! I know we’re all here quite a bit, but they’re here religiously. Endless days, and yet Daniel takes it all in his stride and absolutely loves it. I always admire watching him on set.

This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us, Voldemort – Tom Felton Reveals Final Scene Hint

In another MTV interview, Tom Felton talks about the last Fight Scene of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He describes it as being like a “western style showdown.” He also talks about what the end will be like. You can watch the interview on the MTV website.

Here’s the interview:

Tom Felton on MTV

It’s all been building to this: the battle to the death between Harry Potter and his Dark Arts-enabled adversary Voldemort on the hallowed grounds of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Devotees of J.K. Rowling’s boy-wizard series already know how the clash ends in the final book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” but no one yet knows how it will be handled onscreen. Stay tuned until the summer of 2011, when the second part of “Deathly Hallows” arrives in theaters, to find out.

Until then, we’ll have to go on what its castmembers have to say. Stopping by MTV News to promote the DVD of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” star Tom Felton raved about the climatic combat scene and the way it brings so much of the cast together at once.

“It’s kind of cool, because this is the first time we’ve had so many castmembers on one set at one time, especially everyone from the evil camp and everyone from the good camp in a Western-style showdown — without revealing too much,” said Felton, who plays the nefarious Draco Malfoy. “It’s an amazing last scene, what we’ve shot of it so far. It’s very exciting.”

That’s not the only scene left to complete. The yearlong shoot was originally slated to wrap up at the end of April, but it’s now been extended well into June. Though the end is far off, Felton laughed that he, Daniel Radcliffe and the rest of the cast are looking forward to what should be a killer wrap party, a decade after they began filming the first movie in the series.

In the meantime, Felton is looking forward to returning to the “Potter” set across the Atlantic. “I’ve rarely had an opportunity to work with the evil family,” he said. “I’m working with Helena Bonham Carter, who’s a lovely lady and also a completely scary witch when she wants to be. I’m enjoying working with adult cast tremendously.”

Vampires and Birthday Suits and Tom Felton Equals an E! Interview

Mark Malkin interviews Tom Felton in this E! Interview. They talk about Robert Pattinson, life after the Harry Potter movie’s “passing” – It might have something to do with vampires… – Daniel Radcliffe’s Equus/HarryPotter Crossover rumors, and PARTIES!

Here’s the Interview:

Tom Felton, the villianous Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, can’t avoid it.

All anyone wants to know about these days is what was it was like to work with Robert Pattinson when he played Cedric Diggory in two Potter flicks.

“Obviously, we met a few times and had the old chat, but I don’t recall going that deep with him,” Felton admits from New York City, where he’s promoting the DVD release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. “He was tremendously professional on-set and a great laugh.”

But best of all, Felton says, Pattinson’s Twilight success is “proof that there’s life after Harry Potter.”

As we all know, however, we haven’t seen the last of Hogwarts. There are still two more movies to go in the series. Number seven is in the can with about six months of filming to go on the last.

Felton is quick to quash rumors that they’d end on a more adult note with scenes featuring—ready for this?—a naked Daniel Radcliffe.

“I read that the other day, and I was like, ‘What the hell is that about?’ ” Felton said. “I haven’t seen Dan walking around naked—not on the set anyway. The changing room is a different thing—I’m joking. No, I hadn’t heard anything of it. Dan hasn’t mentioned it.”

But the final wrap party definitely will be like no other. “In previous years, we’ve had kind of timid parties…We were all kind of 13 years old,” Felton said. “Finally we can have a decent party! I’m pretty sure Dan put it in his contract.”
