Everybody is talking about Tom Felton

Now that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has finally opened, the internet has been chock full of accolades heaped upon our Tom. No surprise, really, but to make things easier, Feltbeats.com thought we would compile some of these darling comments all for you one place. First up, from the press:

From the BBC:

Of more interest, however, is what’s different: Tom Felton gets a chance to do more than sneer as the tortured Draco Malfoy, Alan Rickman’s Snape comes to the fore, and even Rupert Grint gets to act beyond his usual Ron Weasley persona (he gets a snog, at least).

The Chicago Tribune:

Tom Felton returns as Malfoy, and he has suddenly turned into an menacing, lanky boy-man, resembling a dark-magic cross between Jonathan Pryce and film director David Lynch.

Rolling Stone:

As played by Tom Felton (at his best in Half-Blood Prince), Draco is the bully with the white-blond hair, the symbol of intolerance who thinks wannabe wizards born of Muggles don’t deserve a shot at a magical education. Watch the way Felton deftly layers the role with vulnerability as the series continues.

The California Chronicle:

Shaq McLean, a fan of Tom Felton who plays Draco Malfoy, said “through [Felton’s] acting, you can really see the pain he’s going through.”

The Manilla Bulletin:

Also worthy of mention is the mission-driven Draco Malfoy ably played by Tom Felton. All of a sudden, Draco graduates from the resident Hogwarts boy-bully as he was tasked to do something Voldemort himself failed to do in the past. Felton played Draco with the right mix of fear and anger.

Diamondback Online:

In Half-Blood Prince, Felton is handed some weighty material and a substantial increase in screen time, and the largely untested actor more than holds his own.

The Buffalo News:

And Tom Felton nails the terrified, desperate, trapped Draco Malfoy— a feat, considering how one-dimensional Malfoy’s character has been up until now.

MTV.com:

Felton, on the other hand, has fully embraced his character’s pivotally evil role in the series. He appreciates that certain features are key in establishing a villain as iconic, which is how he views Draco: the cold eyes, the pasty face, the affectation or standout feature (i.e. Bond villain Blofeld’s cat).

And Examiner.com:

One performance of note would be that of Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy. Because his character has always been somewhat more bark than bite, Felton has never really done much in the movies other than look creepy but accomplish nothing. However, in this one, he is able to do more as he shows some of Malfoy’s conflicted feelings.

Now, not only has the press been saying good things about Tom, so has his cast-mates, in particular good friend Daniel Radcliffe.

In USA Today:

“Tom has risen to the challenge brilliantly,” he says of Felton’s Malfoy. “And he’s a great guy. He’s absolutely lovely and normal.”

Both Radcliffe and Felton play characters that legions of fans think they know, thanks to the books and films. On set, the actors do know each other, as well or better as kids who have been in the same small class together through elementary, middle and high school years.

“We know each other so well, or at least we’ve been around each other so long that we’re comfortable with each other,” Radcliffe says about his youthful co-stars. “I have close personal friendships with all of them, as well as working relationships. When I’m just listening to my music or something, they won’t feel the need to talk to me. And they will know I’m not being rude by not talking to them. We just have that mutual understanding. That’s what’s great about this set. People know what you’re like.”

From indieLONDON:

Q. How was your first real fight with Tom [Felton]? Knowing each other so well was it difficult getting angry with one another?

Daniel Radcliffe: It had been building up… me and Tom had been stemming the flow for years and now we got to fight each other. It was great. For me it was brilliant because Tom’s been – I think it’s fair to say – quite underused in the other films, things have happened and there hasn’t been so much of Malfoy. Luckily, this time around Malfoy gets a real showing and Tom does brilliantly and it was a pleasure to act alongside him.

And on The Today Show:

“He is amazing,” Dan said… “This film belongs to Rupert Grint and Tom Felton.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Tom Felton & Dan Radcliffe discuss Rob Pattinson

At yesterday’s press conference, Tom and Dan were asked how they felt concerning former co-star Robert Pattinson and his rise to fame in the Twilight saga. They told Digital Spy:

Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton have revealed that they are happy for former co-star Robert Pattinson following his success in Twilight.

The actors, who play Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy respectively, appeared alongside Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) in 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire, the fourth instalment in the wizard franchise.

Speaking at a press conference, Radcliffe said: “I won’t pretend we’re best mates or knew each other really well but we really enjoyed working with each other, or at least I enjoyed working with him! He’s doing brilliantly, which is fantastic.

“The thing that is interesting for me, is that Twilight is the only other franchise that comes close to Potter in terms of the mania that surrounds it, the attention that the leads get and just how global it is.”

Felton added: “It’s just great to see someone who has been in Harry Potter have a life after it, and a much bigger one! So I wish him all the success and I will see Twilight soon, I promise!”

If you remember, Feltbeats.com previously reported on the rumors of Tom joining Rob on the set of the vampire series. If anything comes of those, we will let you know.

New Interview: Tom Felton Faces The Two Sides of Draco Malfoy

Life Style: Movie Magic Magazine has just released it’s latest issue featuring dozens of pages on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Included are features on Tom, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Bonnie Wright.

The three page article on the life of Tom Felton includes information about his choir days, his music, his hopes to get out there and fish some more, and why he would love to continue acting.

Some notable quotes from Tom include:

On the comparison of filming and fishing…

“Patience is required heavily in fishing and much the same with the film set. Some days it doesn’t go as fast as you would have hoped or you would have expected. But it’s all about keeping the energy and not only being patient, but just enjoying every minute of it – because sometimes it can be quite easy to slump back if you have an hour or two to wait, and it’s important to make the most of the time with the cast and crew while you’re there.”

On fans confusing him with his character Draco…

“Very early on, some people took very seriously how I was making Harry’s life not pleasant at school and they would plead with me not to pick on him. They seem to associate me with something rather negative which I can only take as a compliment really, I suppose. … I tried to reasure them that nothing was real, and that me and Daniel [Harry] were quite good friends, but it didn’t work.”

And on his hopes for the future…

“I’d love to continue acting. … By the same token, I’m keeping all angles open, really. I’ve been intrigued to do other things. I mean, music has always been a passion of mine, and nature and so forth. I’m not really ruling anything out.”

Other articles feature the actors behind Tom Riddle (aka, Voldie-Mort), producer David Heyman, director David Yates, the designs behind the sets, and the fun and games the fans have at conventions. Also included is a sneak peek into the making of Deathly Hallows which features a lovely interview with Tom’s onscreen dad Jason Isaacs as he recounts begging author JK Rowling to “get me out of [Azkaban] prison.” Life Style: Movie Magic Magazine is available for purchase on news stands through the end of the summer.

Just an update: Translation and new pics of Tom Felton from around the web

A few new photos of Tom have found their way to us this weekend via FeltFan Mondengel from Tom’s appearance at Collectormania.

First up is a pic of Tom with fan Joshua, who was at the event with his family.

Next, is a photo of Tom with fan Rob who blogged on CelebHeights.com that Tom confirmed with him his actual height of 5’9″ as opposed to the 6’1″ Tom’s bio on IMDB has him listed as. As Tom’s height has been a bone of contention amongst some fans, hopefully this will clear up the matter. 😉

Also in the news is a translation of the interview Tom did for the 50min Inside French special. Only in the bizarre world of technology can something said in English, dubbed into French, be translated back into English.

This translation is brought to you from the Harry Potter’s Page website. If a cleaner version is available, please send it in.

Tom Felton: It’s very strange for me, someone who is normal to receive this emotion. It is scary sometimes, but I try to separate me from Harry Potter madness.

And from our intrepid reporter Estrella89san, we have screen cap’s from the fanvideo we previously posted of Tom at the Harry Potter truck tour event held in Leicester Square. The caps were found in the Muggle Thai Forums and are now located in our gallery.

Thanks, Estrella89san and Mondengel for the pics!
